Joseph "Joe" Ashford, Jr., a retired sergeant in the U.S. Army with 22 years of service, having served as a combat engineer in Vietnam, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary. He was 64, a native and resident of Baton Rouge.
Visiting at Greater Beulah Baptist Church Monday until religious service, conducted by the Rev. Darrick J. Johnson. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery.
Survived by two sisters, Dorothy D. Ashford and Marganna F. Patty; and two brothers, Marvin W. Ashford, Sr., and Arthur L. Frances.
Preceded in death by his father, Joseph Ashford, Sr.; mother, Mary B. Ashford; and wife, Renita L. Ashford.
