Helen H. Messbarger, née McBeth, 83, of Swansea, IL., born July 13, 1926, in Bevier, MO., died Monday, May 31, 2010, at Memorial Care Center, Belleville, IL. She passed away with the same grace, dignity, and quiet strength that she lived her life. She was surrounded by all the love of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Messbarger was a registered nurse retired from Memorial Convalescent Center . She was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL .

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John W. Messbarger, whom she married June 20, 1949, in St. Joseph, MO, and who died August 31, 2002; her parents, David "Jack" and Nell, nee Andrews, McBeth; two brothers; three sisters; and two grandchildren, Anna Lee and Tim Frazier.

Surviving are six daughters and two sons, Debbie Loecher of Belleville, IL, Kathy (Toby) Day of St. Louis, MO, Susan Scott of Belleville, IL, Mary McManus of Swansea, IL, Janice (Bob) Lee of Grand Island, NE, John (Laura) Messbarger of Belleville, IL, Tim (Liz) Messbarger of Belleville, IL, and Lori (Rick) Cebulske of Swansea, IL; 18 grandchildren, Shelley (Doug) Harris, Nathan Loecher, Jason Day, Jennifer (Joe) Naert, Matthew (Allison) Scott, Amanda (Jason) Rule, Joey and Katie McManus, Maggie and Emma Lee, Johnnie and Nic Messbarger, Austin and Eric Frazier, Anna Messbarger, and Dylan, Austin, and Benjamin Cebulske; five great-grandchildren, Alex, Bailie, Payton, Lily, and Farrah; and a brother, Charlie McBeth of Macon, MO.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville , IL , and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2010, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL .

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2010 , at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Father Patrick Okwumuo officiating.

Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery , St. Louis , MO.
