Robert Elijah Adams, was born on April 15, 1942 in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the late Mary Jane Ridley Toliver and Leon Adams. He was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana by the late Mary Jane Ridley Toliver and Sidney Toliver, with four siblings.

Elijah, as he was affectionately known by friends and family proudly served his country. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division. After receiving an honorable discharge from the United States Army he returned to New Orleans and began a career as a Merchant Marine. Throughout his life, he embraced what we now know as, "Core Army Values" which are: Loyalty, Honor, Duty, Respect, Integrity, Personal Courage and Selfless-Service.

In 2005, Robert relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana following the devastation to New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina. He sorely missed New Orleans, but was surrounded by family in Baton Rouge.

He leaves to cherish his memory four siblings, James Adams of New Orleans, La., Mary Lynn Gage of Desoto, Texas, James Toliver of San Antonio, Texas, and Marie Clementine of Bronx, New York; one uncle, Abraham Ridley of New Orleans, La.; one daughter; and four grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

On Monday, February 9, 2009 at 9:30am at the age of 66, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Robert, entered a new beginning with his heavenly father.

Obituary published in The Times-Picayune, New Orleans, LA, February 12, 2009, page 5.
