Bernice "Margaret" Hutchins was born Nov 25, 1912 in Montgomery AL the daughter of Agassiz T. and Emma (McCoy) Hutchins. She grew up and attended schools in Birmingham AL. Her family moved to Ottawa Ks in 1926. She graduated Ottawa High 1930 attended Ottawa Univ for 3 years then Univ Of KS in Lawrence where she graduated with a degree in History in 1934.
Margaret taught 1st grand for a year in Ottawa then a year at Boyd School NW of Pomona, KS, a year at Spivey High School and several other schools. She was a bookkeeper, teller at the Ottawa State Bank and in Civil service at Ft. Riley Ks and Quartermaster Corps in Omaha NE.
MargaretWas a missionary for 29 years and taught in three languages, Spanish, Mam and English in a Central American Mission 1948 to 1976 in Quatemala. she then moved to Ottawa to care for her Aunt Lena. She also served as a private tutor, volunteered at the Library and taught Adult Education. She was active in the First Baptist Church, sang in the choir and played in the Bell Choir, Chair of the Church History . She was a charter member of Franklin County Genealogy Society and a winner of their Parks Elder Award
Survived by sister Jane Israel several neices and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, brother Wallace T. Hutchins, and sister Marian Lyle Glanville.
