Word was received in Tipton early Saturday morning that Mrs.
Emily Collingwood, 89, widow of John Collingwood, long time resident of the Atlanta community had died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lydia Bostick near Anderson at 4:30 o'clock. The Leatherman ambulance went after the body bringing it to Tipton to prepare it for burial.
The deceased was one of the long time residents of the Atlanta
community where she and her husband had lived since 1882,
coming to this community from Decatur county.
She was born in Jennings county January 4, 1843, being one of
13 children born to William and Anna (McNew) Pickett. Both parents died and are buried in Jennings county. She was united in marriage to John Collingwood,
June 22, 1865, the marriage taking place in Decatur county and
following their marriage they resided in Pennsylvania, Iowa and Illinois before coming to the Atlanta community.
The husband died in Atlanta, February 24, 1895, but two children survive, they being Foster M. of Atlanta and Elizabeth who married Luther Bostick and resides near Anderson. Mrs. Collingwood spent her time at the homes of her children and had just left the son's home in Atlanta last Sunday.
Besides the two children she is survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Julia Heavern, widow of William Heavern of Westport; Mrs. Louisa Biddinger, widow of Aaron Biddinger of Anderson and Marion Pickett of Atlanta.
