Her father was Charles T. Emery and her mother, Margaret (Hutchensen) Emery.

After finishing grade school in Iowa, she passed the teacher's examination and got a job teaching school in Minnesota.

She married Carl Lewis Snider 5 September 1893 Fulda, Murray County, Minnesota. 1908 they moved their family to Mohler, Lincoln Co., WA.
