Bud's father died when he was only 13 years of age. He tried to continue with the farm, but was unable to do so. His mother decided to move the family to Fredericton and run a boarding home for the girls going to Normal College. Bud and his cousin, Howard, who were only 15 at the time, hitched up two wagons, loaded the family belongings. The boys drove the two wagons on the two day trip from Goods Corner to Fredericton. Halfway along the trip they came to a hill too steep for the horses to pull the heavy load up. They unhitched one team and hooked them all to one wagon to pull up the hill. When they succeeded they unhitched all the horses and brought them down the hill to pull the other wagon up. After they succeeded once again they hitched each team of horses to the two wagons and proceeded to Fredericton. When they arrived it was dark and raining, but they had to unload that night. Bud's mother and siblings had come by train. In the morning Cousin Howard took both wagons and horses back to Goods Corner. It was quite an ordeal for such young boys. As a young man Bud moved to Sanford, Maine to work in a bank, sending for Kaye later. They married there, and lived for a number of years. Later Kaye's friend, Mildred Thayer, convinced the family to move to New York City, which they did. Bud met the manager of Horn and Hardart's Stores quite by accident and was offered a job. Bud moved up in the company and worked there until retirement in 1961, when he and his wife moved to Fredericton, N.B., Canada. They had purchased the house Blake's dental practice and apartment was in from Kaye's brother, Harry. Bud got a job at the Lord
Beaverbrook Hotel, Food Dept. through Hugh John Flemming, and worked there until his retirement once again.
