Frances "Fanny" Jones was the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Jones, natives of North Carolina who settled in Giles County, Tennessee. Benjamin died 21 June 1840 and Mary circa 1862. Giles County, Tennessee Minutes Vol. 1, pp. 643-644 shows these to be the heirs of Benjamin Jones: Mary, his widow; William Jones of Hinds County, MS; Elizabeth Jones Clark, wife of Green W. Clark; Nancy Jones; John Jones; Fanny Jones; Priscilla Jones; and Andrew Jones.

Frances A. Jones married Alexander Porter Clark. They had the following known children:
William C. Clark, John F. Clark, Robert Porter Clark, Andrew Jackson Clark, James Marion Clark, Albert Gallatin Pierce Clark, Edward Porter Clark, Alice Irene Clark Smith, Mary Ann Clark, Walter Clark, and Benjamin Thomas Clark.
