Edith LaVerne Richmond BOREN was born April 9, 1920 in Eads, Tennessee, to Walter and Irene Richmond. She died June 4, 2010 in Southaven, Mississippi, following a stroke. Mrs. Boren was a long time employee of Loeb's Laundry and Goldsmith's Department Store in the Memphis area. She was a past member and officer of the VFW Auxiliary Post 4916 in Frasier. The last of seven siblings, she was predeceased by her brothers Walter, Gus, Thomas, and Melvin Richmond, and sisters Lorraine, who died in infancy, and Dorothy Dowdy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sfc. Johnie B. Boren, U.S. Army (ret.) a decorated veteran of WWII, and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Boren is survived by two sons B.J. Weinstein (Ann), Vienna, IL, and Sam Weinstein (Karen), Seguin, TX; two daughters, Glenda Hawkins, Southaven, MS, and Rebecca Veltman, Hermosa Beach, CA; eight grandchildren David and Suzanne Hawkins, Marieke (Veltman) Miller, Carla Veltman, Samara Weinstein, Sarah (Weinstein) Smith, Jeremy Weinstein and Ruthanne Lewis; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, June 10 from 12-1 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 1PM all at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue. Burial will follow in Memphis National Cemetery.
