1930-2004
FARIBAULT -- Norman L. Ableman, age 74, of Faribault, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at the District One Hospital in Faribault.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at 10 a.m. from the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault, with Chris Sorensen Woodside, pastoral minister with Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault, officiating. Interment will be at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday for one hour prior to the services. Members of the Faribault Aerie 1460, Fraternal Order of Eagles will conduct a memorial service on Friday at 6 p.m.
The family prefers that memorials be directed to the choice of the donor.
Norman Lawrence Ableman, the son of Lawrence "Tiny" and Inga (Hanson) Ableman, was born on Aug. 27, 1930, in Faribault. He graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1949 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Hanegraaf on June 21, 1952, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Faribault. Norm worked for Nutting Truck and Caster Co. for 30 years, with many years as a foreman. He then worked for 10 years for Malt-O-Meal in Northfield until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Faribault Aerie 1460, Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, Geri; six children, Debra Meinke and Linda Edmunds, both of Medford, Daniel Ableman of Faribault, Janelle (and Kevin) Beucler of Shieldsville, David (and Raelene) Ableman, and Vickie Kalow, both of Faribault; by 15 grandchildren; a sister, Gertrude Langer of Owatonna; and by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leonard Ableman; and a son in infancy, Lawrence John.
