Daughter of Eldridge Milton Gorham 1819 - 1889 and Sarah Elizabeth Mullins 1827 - 1910.
On the 1860 census Martha is with her mother and siblings in Georgia, Eldridge is not enumerated there. Eldridge apparently split with Sarah and passed away in 1889 in Arkansas. Martha went to live with her Maternal Grandparents Jesse and Martha Mullins growing to womanhood on their Plantation in Warm Springs. the plantation bordered the farm ( in 1941 owned by President Roosevelt.)
January 1 1867 Martha married Stephen Jefferson and they lived in Atlanta, in December 1870 they move to San Marco Texas. They lived there for five years then moved to a farm in Taylor County three miles West of Buffalo Gap. Her husband Stephen became ill in 1930 and He and Martha then lived ( where they remained ) at the residence of their daughter Willie Neal ( Mrs. Louis P. Strawn ) in Strawn Texas. August of 1940 she went to Vernonia Oregon to visit her daughter ( my g grandmother ) Jessie Neal Jackson, on New years eve she suddenly became ill and passed away 16 January 1941. She was returned to Buffalo Gap and buried alongside of her husband Stephen Jefferson Neal.
