Matt Kennedy was born Sept. 28, 1933 in Hancock, MI, to Francis E. Kennedy and Henrietta (Kessler) Kennedy and was a graduate of Negaunee St. Paul High School, Class of 1951. He worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company for 44 years, retiring from the Tilden Mine in 1995. Following his retirement he spent winters for 10 years in Bull Head City, AZ.
Matt was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Negaunee. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking and gardening. He was very interested in antiques and collected items for many years. He enjoyed telling ‘Irish tales'.
Surviving were 4 sons: Francis "Buddy" Kennedy of Chatham, Michael Kennedy of Albuquerque, NM, Danny (Priscilla Patraw) Kennedy of Negaunee, John (Judy) Kennedy of Negaunee, one daughter, Kathleen Kennedy of Negaunee, 7 grandchildren: Kelsey, Casey, Matthew, Michele, John, Robert, & Ashley, 1 sister, Patricia (Lawrence) Bertocchi of Gwinn, a special friend, Marsha L. Ronn of Negaunee, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Irene in 2007.
