He was only 16-months old and his brother Roy, 3-months when their mother died. It was then that his father prevailed on his sister and her husband, Frieda and Arthur Fischnar to come with their three children and make their home with him and his two infant sons. All of the children and a fourth which was born to Frieda and Arthur, 5-months latter were lovingly reared as one family in the Pohler-Fischnar household on North Ave. E in Shiner which still stands today.
Pete attended Shiner Public Schools and graduated from Shiner High School. After graduation he moved to Houston where he begin his meat cutter profession with his uncle Gus Aschenbeck. Latter he moved back to Shiner and continued a career as a meat cutter at the Stluka Grocery. He continued living at the Pohler-Fischnar household until he married Clarkie McElroy on December 31, 1958. At this time they moved into their home in Worthing.
Pete the last survivor of the Pohler-Fischnar household was preceded in death by his mother, Aug. 23, 1926; his father, Jan.13, 1956; his aunt and mother Frieda Fischnar Feb. 22, 1964; Arthur Fischnar Sr., July 3, 1941; His cousin/sister, Fay Fischnar, July 25, 1944; his cousin/brother Eugene J. Fischnar Oct. 6, 1978; his brother Roy William Pohler, Dec.22, 1987; his cousin/brother Arthur Fischnar April 7, 1995 his cousin/brother Burnell "John" Fischnar Oct 27, 1995 and his wife Clarkie McElroy Pohler Dec. 27, 1995. Survived by numerous cousins.
A Vigil was held at Kubena Funeral Home 507 South Main on May 14, 2005 at 7:30 PM A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church 400 East 5th Street on May 15, 2005 at 2:00 PM with Rev. John Peters officiating. Rite of Committal followed at Shiner Catholic Cemetery
