Anton Janik, Sr.

We pause reverently to pay tribute to a noble citizen, Anton Janik Sr. who passed from this life at his home, Tuesday, August 6 at 1 a.m. at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 21 days. He had been ill for some time but skilled hands could not stay the hand of his Heavenly Father who called him to a Land where we never grow old.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Shiner Catholic Church, Thursday, August 8, 1940 at 9 a.m. The Rt. Rev. Mons. Netardus officiating. Requiem High Mass will be celebrated. Interment in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Janik was born in Fayette County, Texas, moving to Lavaca County 45 years ago to make his home. He has been engaged in farming all his life.

Thirty years ago Mr. Janik and his family moved to the present home place, which he bought and improved.

In October 1897, at Moulton, Texas, he was united in marriage to Miss Sophie Simper. To this union eleven children were born. Ten of whom survive.

Surviving Mr. Janik are the following: wife, Mrs. Sophie Janik, five daughters; Mrs. Philomena Kubecka, Mrs. Mary Drabek, Mrs. Annie Mikes, Miss Albina Janik and Miss Adel Janik, all of Shiner; five sons, Anton A., Frank, Adolf, Rudy and Albert Janik, all of Shiner; two brothers, Steve Janik, Sweet Home, Texas and Frank Janik of Floresville; five sisters Mrs. Francis Opela, Oklahoma, Mrs. M. Pustejovsky, Danbury, Mrs. Betty Farek, Kingsville, Mrs. Havel, Poth, and Mrs. Stavinoha, Placedo, Texas. Also, 20 grandchildren.

Deceased was born and reared in the Catholic Faith, living his life true to the teachings of his church. He was a faithful husband, a loving father, a true brother, and a neighbor always ready to go when needed.

Our loved ones cannot stay with us always and we should be willing for them to be released from the infirmities and cares of this life. The sacrifices made by them during their stay on earth shall not go unrewarded in that Home not made by human hands.

The Gazette joins the many friends of the family in extending sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones.
