Faye Fischnar Laid To Rest Thursday, July 27, 1944
"God loves a shinning mark"-has been truthfully uttered and was verified when Faye Fischnar closed her eyes into dreamless sleep. Death occurred in St. Joseph's Infirmary in Houston on Tuesday July 25, 1944 at 11:00 a.m. after a short illness. Faye, who for the past three years has made her home in Houston with her aunt, Mrs. Gus Aschenbeck, became ill Monday evening and was taken to the hospital on Tuesday morning, where everything humanly was done to restore her to health but He who doeth all things wisely and well, decreed otherwise and she gave up her spirit to her Maker.
Like a bolt out of the clear sky, was the message which the news of her illness and later her death and the shock to her grief-stricken mother, her loving brothers and other relatives, was a severe blow.
Faye Eleanor Fischnar, aged 23 years, 5 months, and 11 days was born in Shiner, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fischnar. She attended St. Ludemila's Academy and Shiner High School, from which she graduated with the class of 1938. She also completed a business course. For some time she remained in Shiner and then went to Houston where she held a responsible position with the firm, Henke and Pilot. During her three-year connection she held a responsible position and several promotions and was always held in the highest regard by her employers and associates.
The body was conveyed to the Eschenburg Funeral Parlor where it remained until the funeral hour on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. Father Hoffmann, who also performed the rites in the Funeral Parlor, and at the grave, celebrated requiem High Mass. Monsignor Netardus, in a touching sermon, paid tribute to the exemplary life of the deceased. Interment was in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery by the side of her father.
If flowers and the presence of friends could lighten the burden of sorrow, it should have helped someone this occasion, for so many came to offer sympathy and bring their choicest blossoms to breath their fragrant messages of condolence.
Casket bearers were; Edwin Wolters, John E. Kasper, Pete Kahanek, A. A. Schramm, George Valis, and Sgt. Edwin Cimerhanzel.
Survivors include, her mother and three brothers, Pvt. Eugene Fischner, of Aloe Field, St. Sgt. Burel Fischner who is in the Hawaiian Islands and Arthur Fischnar of Shiner, who was with his sister at the time of her passing. There are also numerous other relatives, who mourn the one they learned to know and love so well, especially will her Aunt with whom she had made her home while in Houston miss her.
There has never been any one in our city, who has grown from infancy to womanhood who could claim more friends than did Faye Fischnar. Her genial presence and friendly smile was a welcome addition to any gathering
We shall miss you Faye. To those whose hearts are torn with grief the Gazette offers sympathy. May her shinny disposition radiate around them in their great distress and reflect the sunshine of her perpetual smile.
Among those who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Gus Aschenbeck and daughter, Miss Edie Wolters and Henry Pohler of Houston; Mrs. R. E. Tait and daughters of Columbus; Mrs. Chas. Vackar and daughter, Gonzales; Mrs. Frank Biehunko and daughters, Mrs. Chas. Lueke, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pohler, Moulton; and Mrs. John Galovic. Victoria.
