Was Early Day Settler in County

Inwood – Special to the Reporter: S. B. Haugland, a resident of Inwood, who had been in ill health for a number of years, died at his home here on Sunday morning from bronchial pneumonia.

Services will be held Wednesday from the home and at Our Saviour's church, Rev. L. O. Thorson officiating. The remains will be buried beside those of his wife who died February 24, 1913.

Mr. Haugland was born in Stord, Norway, December 20, 1851. He came to America in 1873 and went to Eldorado, Iowa. In 1886 he came to Lyon county and settled on a farm three and a half miles northwest of Inwood. He retired from the farm in 1920 and moved to the city, where he passed away at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 11 days. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Iver Fagerhaug of Irene, S. D.; Mrs. Gus Anderson, Mrs. Severt Knudtson and Miss Julia Haugland of Inwood, and one son, Tom Haugland of Wessington, Springs. S.D.
