He was born Sept. 7, 1950 in Rotan. He spent over 30 years as a volunteer firefighter in Texas and New Mexico. He joined the Idalou Fire Dept. at 16 and retired from the Happy Valley Fire Dept. June 30, 2004. He held several offices including Captain, Chief, and President of NMSFFA and of SENMFFA. He was a carpenter, who specialized in cabinetry and woodworking. He married Lisa L. Hay June 7, 1996 in Carlsbad, N.M.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa; five children, James Haynes of Oak Point, Hollie Stapp, Christie Bankston, and Kayla and Allen Rehrig, all of Lubbock; three grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry Phillips of San Carlos, N.M., Mike Phillips of Ft. Worth, and Byron Haynes of Aiken, S.C.; and a sister, Paula Corder of Rankin.
Celebration of Life services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock with the Rev. Johnny Long officiating. Burial will follow at Peaceful Garden's Memorial Park in Woodrow. Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.
