When her brothers, Maury and Frank, went north to Minnesota to homestead land in 1880, she followed them and took up a claim too. She taught one of the first schools in western Minnesota.
She moved to Minneapolis to live with her son Harry. When he married she moved to her daughter Edna's home in Glyndon MN where she lived until she died.
