He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Marine Hotine was killed in an explosion while on a joint foot patrol with soldiers from the Afghan National Army near Patrol Base Jamil in the Sangin district, Helmand province.

Aged 21, he was born in Torquay and lived in Warminster, Wiltshire. Known as "Tino", he enlisted in June 2007 and passed for duty in March 2008. He attended the Defence School of Transport, Leconfield, where he gained his full range of driving licences, including his HGV driver qualification. In 2008 he served his first tour of duty in Afghanistan and later specialised as a signaller. He deployed on his second mission to Afghanistan in April 2010 and was considered a valuable and experienced team member despite his young age. Described as quiet and kind-hearted by nature, he was a consummate professional with enormous potential.

Marine Hotine is survived by his parents Neil and Nicky, younger brothers Callum and Kieren, along with other family and friends. The family released a statement: "Words cannot describe the devastating sense of loss felt across the whole family; he was an amazing son, big brother and grandson to us all. He was the life and soul of any party and his passing will leave a huge hole in the hearts of everybody who loved and knew him. He lit up a room with his smile and always lived every day to the full. We are so lucky to have had him in our lives and he will always be part of us. "Tino" you will be missed, never forgotten, and very much loved forever."

Funeral with full military honours was held on June 25, 2010 at Christ Church in Warminster.

Marine Hotine is also honoured on a plaque at the Commando Memorial's "Area of Remembrance" in Spean Bridge, Scotland. See memorial #165063414
