Long-time resident of Sumter County, Gwen Reeves, went on to be with Jesus on Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the age of 91, in her daughter's home at 6040 Taylor Rd., Jacksonville, Fla. 32234.

She was the sweetest and most loved mother who ever lived and was so loved by all, according to her family. Reeves was born in Tifton on June 17, 1913 to the late Ollie and Caroline Gibbs. She graduated from Tift County High School and went onto Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn. and graduated from Georgia Southwestern College in 1932.

Her husband, J.N. Reeves and daughter Judy Reeves preceded her in death in 1984 and 1963.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane Reeves Hendricks and son-in-law, Bill Hendricks; four grandchildren, Denise Jefferson (Glenn), David Hendricks (Lori), Jeff Hendricks (Missi) and Judy Myers, all of Florida; nine great-grandchildren, Chrissy Vause (Riley), Jenny Jefferson (Dan Willis), Davie, Derek and Heather Hendricks, Laura and Kyle Hendricks, Travis and Kelli Myers; two great great-grandchildren, Aubrey Willis and Dylan Vause; three sisters, Faye Jones, June Wiggins and Sara Boush (Mallary); two brothers, Larry Gibbs (Susan) and Wallace Gibbs (Sara); two daughters-in-law, Jewel Reeves and Ann Reeves, and a host of precious family members.

Reeves was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church for over 60 years. The last 2 1/2 years she attended Long Branch Church in Maxville, Fla. and was very happy. She didn't ever want to miss being in church. She was such a joy, said her family. She will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, July 27. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28, at Hancock Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill McLeod officiating, followed by interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers are: David Hendricks, Jeff Hendricks, Glenn Jefferson, Riley Vause, Dan Willis and D.J. Stanford. Gwen Reeves' step-grandsons will be honorary pallbearers: Jimmy Belcher, Larry Belcher, Bill Reeves, Bob Reeves, David Reeves, Jerry Reeves, Gary Reeves, Charles Reeves, Dan Reeves, Roy Don Reeves and Mac Clements.

Hancock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
