Mrs. Bettie Jane Bowman, 88, 368 Chestnut Ave., died at 4:45 a.m. today at the Waynesboro Community Hospital where she had been critically ill the past three days. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the widow of Milton Lee Bowman.
She was born Jan. 20, 1869, in Nelson County, daughter of the late James and Catherine Farrar Baber.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harry S. Brooks, with whom she had made her home; one son, Carl Bowman, Staunton; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; also a number of nieces and nephews.
The body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday for Mrs. Bettie Jane Bowman, 368 Chestnut Ave., who died yesterday. The services will be conducted by the Rev. T. Y. Mullins, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Etter Funeral Home with interment in Riverview Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Erskine Bowman, Andrew Bowman, Frank Kerby, Russell Farrar, Minor A. Layman, and James W. Wright.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Mahler, Raymond Bragg, R. M. Edwards, James Yearout, Marvin Kerby, Dr. A. M. McLaughlin, and J. Leroy Rhodes.
