Charles was the only son of Charles Manley Covington & Louise Capel to live to be an adult. His father was one of the wealthiest men in Florida for his time. He was only 11 years old when his mother died. His father remarried to a younger woman and had 2 more sons by his second wife. From the various jobs Charles did I dont think he inherited a great fortune. He worked as a clerk, a fruit grower, and laborer according to his records. His last occupation was a blind salesman. His wife worked for the the state of Florida doing a clerical job.

Charles Enlisted Aug 11, 1918 & was discharged March 10, 1919. His rank was 2nd Lt. in company QMC. The record attached to the memorial is the application for the military headstone. I noticed that it shows his middle name written out as Holliday. I had previously only seen it on the 1930 census but its not that easy to make out. I believe I have it right now. I was never able to find his WW I draft card to establish his actual birth date. I have Feb from the 1900 census. He lived to be about 55 years of age.
