VERNON SANDY RIDGE - Nancy Coleman Vernon, 85, of 2816 NC Hwy. 770 W, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Walnut Cove Health and Rehabilitation Center. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel with the Reverend Doug Byrd and the Reverend Donald Chandler officiating. Interment will follow in the Ayersville Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Vernon was born on November 2, 1924, in Rockingham County to the late Samuel and Kate Burris Coleman. She was retired from Burlington Industries and The Flower Box and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Nancy was a talented musician and songwriter. She was a member of Ayersville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Vernon; twelve brothers, James Beverly, Robert Lee, John Elbert, Samuel Buford "Fisher", Dewey Mason "Duke", Joe Russell, Woodrow Wilson, William Roscoe, Harvey, Charlie Mac, Vin David, and Paul Linzy Coleman; four sisters, Lillie Mae Coleman, Maude Virginia Smith, Nellie Elizabeth Ellis, and Mary Lee Coleman. Survivors include her daughter, Theresa (Kenny) Adkins; and two grandchildren, Bill and Erica Adkins. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, June 4, 2010, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel in Sandy Ridge and other times at the home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Ayersville Baptist Church Cemetery, c/o Leo Cardwell at 578 NC 770, Mayodan, NC 27027. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Nancy's special caregiver, Ann Prillaman and also to the staff and nurses at Walnut Cove Health and Rehabilitation Center for their excellent care.
