After the death of his first wife (perhaps she died giving birth to Margery in 1835), because he was united in marriage by John Ripley to Rebecca Ash in Tyler County, WV on November 26, 1835.
Rebecca, Robert's 2nd wife, had became pregnant by another man when she was a young woman and had borne a son (before she married Robert). Her first child's name was John Ash and Robert raised John as one of his own children.
