DOROTHY BELLE (CARNES) MCCARLEY
SANANGELO— Dorothy Belle (Carnes) McCarley, 89, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Myrtlewood Assisted Living Facility.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Steven Sweet officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Coleman City Cemetery in Coleman, Texas. Arrange­ments are made by John­son's Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born Feb. 2, 1921, to Jessie and Mary Belle Barnes in Coleman, Texas. Dorothy met the love of her life, George and on July 3, 1940, she married GEORGE "ARK" EDWARD McCARLEY . To this union was born one daughter, Georgia Belle, and three sons, George Edward Jr., JACK ARMON McCARLEY and WILLIAM "BILL" LLOYD McCARLEY . Following their mar­riage, the McCarley's lived in Coleman for two years before moving to San Ange­lo in 1943. During World War II, Dorothy picked cotton to support her family and to pay for the family's trans­portation while George was in Europe. After acquiring a plumbing business together, she and George owned and managed McCarley Plumb­ing Company from 1952 until their retirement in 1999. Dorothy was a devot­ed homemaker and moth­er and a wonderful grand­ma. She loved being out­doors and planting flowers and cutting roses and read­ing books. She loved can­ning fruits and making pre­serves from fruit trees in her yard. She and her fam­ily took many wonderful vacations and saw most of the United States. After the children left home, Dorothy and George enjoyed travel­ing in their motor home to meet family and friends. She enjoyed life and saw many changes throughout her 89 years. She faced difficulty loss, and disappointment, but her strong will and char­acter helped her persevere.
Dorothy is survived by chil­dren Jack Armon McCarley and William Lloyd McCarley, all of SanAngelo; her grand­sons, Burk McCarley and wife Christy, Jack McCarley Jr. and Andrew Logan; granddaugh­ters Rachelle Healer and hus­band David, Letitia Lack and husband Mark, Jennifer McCarley, Alice Hildebrand and husband John; great-­grandchildren Monica Gar­cia and husband Adam, Kris­ten Wynn and husband Larry Lee, James McCarley, Jordan, London, and Paris Lack, Laqr­isha and Anthony Roland and Hannah Hildebrand; great-great-grandchildren Jesse Wynn, Maddie, Hunter and Eli Garcia, Crystal, Trinity and Callie Roland. She is also survived by her brother, Ray­mond Carnes and wife Doro­thy of Coleman; sister-in-law Edith Carnes of Coleman; a special uncle, Stan George and wife Lois; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Mary Belle Carnes; husband George Edward McCarley; infant daughter Georgia Belle McCarley; son George Edward McCarley Jr.; broth­er Donald Ray Carnes and wife Betty; and brothers Joe Dean Carnes, Willie Carnes and Vernon Carnes.
