SANANGELO— Dorothy Belle (Carnes) McCarley, 89, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Myrtlewood Assisted Living Facility.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Steven Sweet officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Coleman City Cemetery in Coleman, Texas. Arrangements are made by Johnson's Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born Feb. 2, 1921, to Jessie and Mary Belle Barnes in Coleman, Texas. Dorothy met the love of her life, George and on July 3, 1940, she married GEORGE "ARK" EDWARD McCARLEY . To this union was born one daughter, Georgia Belle, and three sons, George Edward Jr., JACK ARMON McCARLEY and WILLIAM "BILL" LLOYD McCARLEY . Following their marriage, the McCarley's lived in Coleman for two years before moving to San Angelo in 1943. During World War II, Dorothy picked cotton to support her family and to pay for the family's transportation while George was in Europe. After acquiring a plumbing business together, she and George owned and managed McCarley Plumbing Company from 1952 until their retirement in 1999. Dorothy was a devoted homemaker and mother and a wonderful grandma. She loved being outdoors and planting flowers and cutting roses and reading books. She loved canning fruits and making preserves from fruit trees in her yard. She and her family took many wonderful vacations and saw most of the United States. After the children left home, Dorothy and George enjoyed traveling in their motor home to meet family and friends. She enjoyed life and saw many changes throughout her 89 years. She faced difficulty loss, and disappointment, but her strong will and character helped her persevere.
Dorothy is survived by children Jack Armon McCarley and William Lloyd McCarley, all of SanAngelo; her grandsons, Burk McCarley and wife Christy, Jack McCarley Jr. and Andrew Logan; granddaughters Rachelle Healer and husband David, Letitia Lack and husband Mark, Jennifer McCarley, Alice Hildebrand and husband John; great-grandchildren Monica Garcia and husband Adam, Kristen Wynn and husband Larry Lee, James McCarley, Jordan, London, and Paris Lack, Laqrisha and Anthony Roland and Hannah Hildebrand; great-great-grandchildren Jesse Wynn, Maddie, Hunter and Eli Garcia, Crystal, Trinity and Callie Roland. She is also survived by her brother, Raymond Carnes and wife Dorothy of Coleman; sister-in-law Edith Carnes of Coleman; a special uncle, Stan George and wife Lois; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Mary Belle Carnes; husband George Edward McCarley; infant daughter Georgia Belle McCarley; son George Edward McCarley Jr.; brother Donald Ray Carnes and wife Betty; and brothers Joe Dean Carnes, Willie Carnes and Vernon Carnes.
