The Rev. Jamie Douglas Stimson, 87, of Statesville, died May 4, 2010, at Gordon Hospice House.

Mr. Stimson was born September 21, 1922, in Atlanta, Ga. He was the son of the late Robert M. and Helen Easley Stimson.

He grew up in Chattanooga, Tenn., where his father was pastor of Second Presbyterian Church. He is a graduate of McCallie School in Chattanooga, Davidson College, and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Va.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Nellie Gray Sides Stimson.

A minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) until his retirement in 1983, Mr. Stimson served congregations in Hickory, N.C.; Fort Mill and Iva, S.C.; Washington, D.C.; Charlotte Court House, Drakes Branch, and Richmond, Va.; and Knoxville and Roan Mountain, Tenn.

He is survived by two daughters, Eva Stimson and her husband, the Rev. Jerry L. Van Marter, of Louisville, Ky., and Anne Wolf and her husband, Eric, of Durham; two sons, David Stimson of Richmond, Va., and Timothy Stimson and his wife, Marianne, of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Sarah and Natalie Wolf, Rachel and Luke Van Marter, and Daniel Stimson; one sister, Harriet Davis of Austell, Ga.; and two brothers, Thomas F. Stimson of Chattanooga, and Bailey E. Stimson of Rockledge, Fla.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 11, at 11:00 AM at Concord Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kyle Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concord Presbyterian Church, 3867 Taylorsville Highway, Statesville, NC 28625, or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
