Lt. Army Air Corps, WW2-Lt. Lence was killed in an aerial accident on 5-18-1944 at Rapid City, South Dakota. Lt. Lence was one of ten men to be killed in this bomber incident while serving with the 398th Bomber Group.

He came to Peoria, Illinois in 1939 to work at the W.T. Grant Co., and to meet and marry Miss Marjorie Wassmuth of 628 Frye Avenue in Peoria on October 6, 1943, and she is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J.J. Wassmuth of 623 Frye Avenue in Peoria. Lt. Lence is the son of Mr. Frank & Mrs. Olivia Lence of Cobden, Illinois. Lt. Lence did his training, and received his Commission at Stuttgart Field, Arkansas.

He leaves three brothers, Pfc. Joe Lence in the Army, Sgt. Henry Lence with the Army Air Corps, and Russell Lence at home, and four sisters, his twin, Miss Dorothy Lence working at Caterpillar, Miss Mary Ann, Miss Patricia Lence, and Mrs. Frances Treece, all of Cobden.

Awards: American Camapign Medal, Lt. Bars, Pilot Wings, Good Conduct Medal.

Footote: The former Miss Marjorie Wassmuth leaves one sister with the WAVES, Miss Elizabeth, and two brothers, John with the Navy, and SSgt. Robert Wassmuth of the Army.
