James E. Hyer Sr., 88, of Gassaway, Braxton County, died May 23, 1987, in Memorial Division, CAMC. He was a member of Big Otter United Methodist Church. He was a retired auto mechanic and farmer. Surviving: sons, James E. of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Robert L. of Elyria, Ohio, William R. of Lagrange, Ohio, Harold Glenn of Fallston, Md.; daughters, Eleanor Young of Dunbar and Marjorie Sally Crislip of Gassaway; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Gassaway Funeral Home, Gassaway, with the Rev. Richard Leaman officiating. Burial will be in Boggs Cemetery, Big Otter. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home
