Rufus A. Vaught Succumbs At 87

Rufus Amon Vaught, 86, of the Carter Addition of Crab Orchard, died in a Beckley hospital at 5:10 a.m. Wednesday following a long illness.

He was born Jan. 24, 1883 in Giles County, Va., the son of the late Rufus and Elizabeth Crook Vaught.

Survivors include two sons, Lester (Pee Wee) Vaught of Carter Addition, with whom the elder Vaught made his home, and Marvin Vaught of Midway; three daughters, Mrs. Steve (Edith) Underwood of Beckley, Mrs. Gertrude Murphy of Willowby, Ohio, and Mrs. Roy (Norma) Light of Pilot, Va. and 17 grandchildren.

His wife, Mrs. Mary Ellen Dangerfield Vaught, died in 1952.

He had been a member of the Hilltop Baptist Church.

Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Williams Funeral Home Chapel at MacArthur with Rev. K. C. Lilly, Jr. in charge. Burial will be in the Mount Tabor Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

Pallbearers will be Glen Fitzpatrick, Tom Smith, Glenn Paisley, Basil Hughart, D. L. Keadle and Wilbert Harrah.
