Death certificate #22764, shows his parents as Joe Ben Abell and Sarah Abell. He was a married farmer and cause of death listed as coronary occlusion. Buried at Holy Name of Mary Cemetery, Marion County.

The Lebanon Enterprise, 10-2-1931:

Spalding Abell, 39 years old, who lives on the Arbuckle pike a few miles south of town, died suddenly in Mattingly's Restaurant, on Main street opposite the Vaughn Hotel, where he went with several friends to lunch Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock. He had given an order & was sitting on a stool at the counter conversing with friends while waiting for the meal to be served. Suddenly he leaned forward on the counter placing his hands to his head, & when asked if he was sick made no reply. When it was realized that he was ill Drs. John T. Boldrick & B.J. Baute were summoned, but Mr. Abell was dead when they arrived. Death was due to a heart attack it was announced. Mr. Abell was accompanied to the restaurant by Abell Lee, his son, Joe Lee; Alvin Bradshaw, & Dallas Mattingly. Mr. Abell was seemingly in his usual good health prior to suffering the attack. He made no complaint of feeling ill to his friends & they did not know he had been stricken when he was seen to quietly place hands to his head & lean forward on the counter. Mr. Abell was a son of Joe Ben & Elizabeth Abell Abell, the latter being an Abell before she married. He was born & reared in the Calvary neighborhood where all of his life was spent. He was well known, & the news of his death came as a shock to relatives & friends. Surviving him are his wife, who was Miss Elizabeth Bradshaw, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. W. H. Bradshaw, to whom he was married eighteen years ago, & seven children. They are Francis, Henson, Mary Elizabeth, Mary Rita, Elsworth, Clairborn & Mary Jane Abell. Another child, a little daughter, was killed five years ago when an auto being backed out of a garage struck her. Mr. Abell is also survived by his father, step-mother, one brother, Arthur Abell of Louisville, & three sisters, Mrs. Henry Thomas & Mrs. Harry Wathen of this county, & Mrs. J.M. Haydon of Louisville. Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church at Calvary this morning at 9 o'clock by Rev. J.P. Welsh. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
