Sara (Quiring) Peters passed away on June 1, 2010 at the Henderson Nursing Home at the age of 91 years. Her parents were Dietrich C. and Katharina (Buller) Quiring. Sara was born on December 5, 1918 on a farm northwest of Henderson. Her family lived there for three years before moving to a farm southeast of Henderson. Sara attended school at District 37 in York County through eighth grade, with two additional years at the German Bible School and two years of high school. She was baptized at Bethesda Mennonite Church on May 16, 1937 by Rev. A.W. Friesen and was an active church member.

Sarah fondly remembered working with her family on the farm growing up. As an older child in a large family, she became very good at baking and cooking. Sara was a Sunday school teacher and active in Mission Circle at church. Her family took part in Bible studies, choir, and volunteer work. She enjoyed singing with the Singspiration group for many years. Sewing, quilting, embroidery, and reading were a few of her hobbies.

John E. Peters was a farm hand at Sara's grandparent's farm. He won her heart with his smile and kind heart. They married December 5, 1939 on Sara's birthday, and were happily married for 43 years. John and Sara shared a good sense of humor. They enjoyed having company in their home and visitors were always welcome. John died on April 18, 1983.

Sara was a good homemaker and helped John with farming for many years. Shortly after their marriage they moved to California in search of work. John worked in the orchards while Sara cleaned and cooked at different jobs. Dorothy and Carolyn were born in California. In 1948 they moved back to Nebraska to farm. Their last daughter, Ruth was born in Henderson.

Sara is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Zimmerman of Beatrice, NE, Carolyn and Ron Stucky of Inman, KS, and Ruth and Chris Shubert of Lincoln, NE. Her grandchildren are Brad and Barb (Stucky) Newitt, Mary Rosenberg, John and Cindy Stucky, Katie Stucky, Carl and Liz (Shubert) Galloway, Stephanie Shubert, and Kim Shubert. Great-grandchildren are Sam and Sara Newitt, Luke and Cali Stucky, and Annika Galloway. Also surviving is her brother, David and Lavina Quiring of Henderson; sisters, Katharine and Marvin Siebert and Marie and Arnold Siebert of Henderson; sisters-in-law, Esther Quiring and Estalean Quiring both of Henderson along with many nieces and nephews.

Sara is preceded in death by her husband, John, parents, siblings, Diet, Peter, Aaron, Henry, Walter, Daniel and Elizabeth and son-in-law, Ken Zimmerman. As a mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, good friend, and strong woman of faith, she will be missed by all.
