Funeral services for Patsy Ruth Ranels Norton will be at 10 o'clock a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the Colonial Chapel of Sullivan Funeral Home with Father Matthew Frick officiating, with burial at Algoma South Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 2, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home.
Mrs. Norton was born Nov. 20, 1933, to Saint Elmo and Carmillia Lombardo Ranels, and went to be with her husband, her parents, her siblings, Betty and Bailey, her nephews, Mark and Tres, on May 30, 2010, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Norton graduated from Marshall High School in 1953 and married Birchie M. Norton Jr., on June 20, 1953.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshall. Patsy, nicknamed "Pill" by her siblings at an early age, enjoyed working in her yard with her various flowers until she was unable to due to her health. Her pride and joy was her grandson, Jeremy Ryan Cox, and she lit up with a smile anytime anyone would mention his name.
Mrs. Norton was preceded in death by her husband, Birch, of 49 years; her parents; her sister, Betty Cain; her brother, Elmo Bailey; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Birchie Sr. and Ethel; and her nephews, Mark Williams and Tres Treadwell.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and T.K. Wadlington of Colorado City, Colo., and Betsy and Randy Cox of Marshall; grandson, Jeremy Ryan Cox of Marshall; sisters, Ruby Armstrong of San Antonio, and Mildred and Dorsey Thomas of Abilene; sister-in-law, Jeannie Layman of Longview; brothers-in-law, Shelton Cain of Hallsville, B.R. Norton of San Felipe, Mexico, and Buford Norton of Texarkana, Texas; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Special tanks to J.C. Williams, Jordan Health Care and her health care providers, Joyce Lister, Lisa Miles, and Cynthia Fields who took wonderful care of her and enabled her to stay at home until her death.
Pallbearers will be B.R. Norton, Randy Cox, J.C. Williams, Bobby Newland, David Layman and Clayton Layman.
