Cephas served in Benedict's Regiment, New York Militia, in the War of 1812. He was a musician and played the fife.
His dates of service were June 1812 until Dec. 1812.
His first wife, Lavinia Bates who died in 1809.
From ancestor-Jackie Ennis-"Cephas wrote the following in the memory book of Jane Ann Skeels, his niece:"I was born February 10, 1779 in Old Hoosack, Renssalaer Co. New York. When 4 years old moved to Vermont. When 17 years to York State & in 1833 emigrated to Ohio, Harrison township, Licking Co. And now, 1st,2d,3d,4th and 5th, am making my last visit with my brothers and sisters and their children & feel much delighted to see so many of them walking in wisdoms ways & on the way to heaven-go on, my soul says, go on. & by the grace of God I'll meet you there. Cephas Skeel 71 yrs, 8 months & 22 days old."
His father, Dr. Elijah Skeel served in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. This marker CS in row 5 marker 3 is the same stone I was given a photo years ago as being the footstone of Cephas Skeel(s) who is noted as being in row 7 marker 3. I live in MS and am unable to verify since I have no plot map, but would that fit?
