The North Loup Loyalist, Friday, August 13, 1909

"Viola Burdick was born in Boulder, Colorado, January 2, 1892, and died at the home of her parents near this village Monday afternoon, August 9. She had been sick for nearly a year with cancer, and tho everything was done for her that could be done the ravages of the disease took her young life. Thru all her sufferings, and they were intense at times, she was uncomplaining and was patient thru it all. In her home life as well as in the Junior C.E. [Christian Endeavor] society and the Sabbath School she was always faithful to the trusts given here and was a good and faithful worker. In all of these she will be missed and will not soon be forgotten. Funeral services were held from the S.D.B. Church Wednesday forenoon conducted by her Pastor, Rev. Geo. B. Shaw, and the tired body was laid to rest in the cemetery west of the village. Her parents have the sincerest sympathy of all in their sad hour but they have the assurance that she is with her Savior whom, she loved and served."

(Submitted by her niece, Jean Jorgensen #47179150)

Viola was the oldest child of Orville and "Mattie" Burdick. A sister followed her, Nettie Burdick, who died as a young girl when the family lived in Boulder, Colorado. Next was a brother, Edwin Henry Burdick, followed by two miscarriages and then another brother, Delwin Grant Burdick. Viola died in 1909, before another sister was born, Grace Eola Burdick, in 1913. Grace is my mother - Jean Jorgensen
