JENNINGS — Anne Houssiere Hebert, 100, died at 1:10 p.m. Friday, April 12,
2002, in Crowley.
She was a native of Evangeline, and she had lived in Jennings for 96
years. She ran Houssiere Funeral Home — now Matthews and Son Funeral Home
— in Jennings during World War II. She was a Jennings city clerk. She was
a chairman of the Red Cross in charge of knitting stockings. She gained
statewide recognition for her church decorations — which she created for
more than 40 years — and she earned the Pro Ecclesia Medal and the
Bishop's Medal. She was head of the Altar Society for several years.
Survivors include two sons, I. Lawrence Hebert and Richard J. Hebert, both
of Jennings; two daughters, Mrs. Therese H. Mire and Gertrude H. Dumesnil,
both of Lafayette; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and four
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. today, April 13, from Our Lady Help of
Christians Catholic Church. Monsignor James Gaddy and the Rev. Wayne
LeBleu will officiate. Internment will be in Calvary Mausoleum under the
direction of Matthews and Son Funeral Home. Visitation will be at from 8
a.m. A vigil was held Friday.
