POTOSI, Wis. -- Donald A. Walsh, 86, of Potosi, died Sunday, May 30, 2010, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Tennyson, with the Rev. Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson, where military rites will be accorded. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the church where the rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. The Martin Funeral Home, Potosi, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on June 15, 1923, in Tennyson, son of Joseph and Anna (Wallenhorst) Walsh. Don graduated from St. Andrew Catholic High School and attended college at Marquette University in Milwaukee. He served in the Army from 1942 until 1946.

He married Helen M. Mulholland on Jan. 21, 1947, at St. John the Baptist Church in Muscoda. Together they owned and operated Walsh Stores with locations in Tennyson, Prairie du Chien, Galena, Ill., and Maquoketa, Iowa.

Don was a lifelong member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and the Catholic Knights No. 42. He also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 473 for more than 60 years. Don served on the Tennyson Village Board and played third base for the Tennyson Athletic Club ball team. He was an appointed member for Grant County Estate Appraisers.

Don loved spending time with his family and their activities as well as playing crazy eight with his friends at the Road House.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Helen Walsh, of Potosi; two sons, Michael (Peg) Walsh, of Potosi, and Richard (Pat) Walsh, of Galena; two daughters, Victoria (Mac) McLaughlin, of Maquoketa, and Jacklyn (Larry) Curtis, of Potosi; 13 grandchildren, Chad (Angele) and Scott (Anniina) Walsh, Misty, DJ and Casey McLaughlin, Bekki, Brad and Bobbi Walsh, Bridget, Brent, Brady, Lindsay and Lacey Curtis; a sister, Patricia Langmeier, of Prairie du Chien; a foster brother, Marvin (Dot) David, of Potosi; five great-grandchildren, Aspen, Kaden, Irelyn, and Jasper Walsh and Macklyn McLaughlin; and a sister-in-law, Isabele Walsh, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clifford, Robert (Jeanette) and Parnell (Julia) Walsh; his sister, Sr. Patricia Ann Walsh; a foster brother, Walter (Erma) David, and a brother-in-law, Ben Langmeier.
