His ship, the EMS, left from the port of Bremen, Germany, and eventually docked in New York, New York, on Feb. 20, 1886. From New York, Otto took a connecting ship to Galveston, Texas. From Galveston, Otto made his way to Fayette County where he joined his brother, August Banik and family.
