Otto Banik was born in the Posen area of Germany, which after World War I, became part of Poland.

Otto was the son of Wilhelm Banik and Caroline Petrich.
Otto immigrated to the United States to join his older brother, August Banik and his family, in Texas. His ship, the EMS, left from the port of Bremen, Germany, and eventually docked in New York, New York, on Feb. 20, 1886. From New York, Otto took a connecting ship to Galveston, Texas. From Galveston, Otto made his way to Fayette County where he joined his brother, August Banik and family.

Otto Banik married Louise Burkhardt on Feb. 9, 1897, in Fayette County, Texas.

Otto and Louise Banik lived in the Fayette-Washington Counties area while Otto's brother, August Banik, moved his family to Falls County, Texas, and eventually to McLennan County where they settled near West.
