Johnny Lewis Black, 59, of Dzilth-Na-O-Dil-Hle, passed away Monday, May 25, 2010, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. He was born Oct. 3, 1950, in Monticello, Utah, to Daniel and Ruth Black. He was born to the Notah-Tacheenie and for the Bitahnie clan.
He served with the Marine Corps from 1969 to 1970, and was a Vietnam veteran.
Johnny worked for Williams WPC-I, Inc. in Bloomfield for 29 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Black; and his foster parents.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Marie Werito-Black; his children, Tyra Leslie (Ebin) of Polacca, Ariz., Brian Joe (Katie) of Kirtland, Shannon Joe (Leander) of Peoria, Ariz., Cheri Black-Begay (Bodge) of Bloomfield, "Sonny" (Johnny) Black (Dre) of Dulce and Marshaun Black (Sheridan) of Dulce; grandchildren, Amber Naha, Season Black, Dana, Tylar and Gabriel Tewawina, Kyler and Kyra Joe, Jalen, Kiana and Devyn Garcia, Lukeise and Kanin Raye, Tylia and Trayo Morgan, Sequoia Begay, Saleisha Black, Lucricia and Talula Vigil; mother, Ruth Black; brother, Dan Black of Blanding, Utah; sisters, Merla Jones of Blanding and Arlene Hatch of Towaoc, Colo.; his foster family in Ogden, Utah; and various nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held promptly at 10 a.m. today, May 29, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 804 W. Blanco Blvd. in Bloomfield.
Burial will be in the Garden of Freedom at Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington.
There will be a motorcycle escort from the church in Bloomfield to Memory Gardens. All veterans and non-veterans are invited to ride in memory of Johnny L. Black, Marine and Vietnam veteran.
A reception at 1 p.m. will follow the burial.
