Former Bluffton resident, Bernard Edwin Hookanson, 89, of Park Ridge, Ill., died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007.Born in Bluffton to Edwin and Dorothy Hookanson on Oct. 17, 1918, he married Phoebe Lindstrand; she preceded him in death.An honors graduate of Lane Tech High School, Mr. Hookanson attended Wright College and Northwestern University. He served in the Pacific with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and worked as an accountant, farmer and electrician before co-founding Forbes Electric Company, where he worked for 30 years. He was a volunteer at the Park Ridge YMCA and a 60-year member of The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Surviving relatives include one daughter, Christine (William) Youngberg and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Park Ridge Presbyterian Church, Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. Mr. Hookanson has donated his body to science. Preferred memorials are to the Park Ridge Public Library or the Park Ridge Presbyterian Church.
