Died from Thyphus Fever.

"The loss in our family was of the one in whom all the ambitious hopes of the family lay---brother Abel M S Gordon. He had by nature great endowments both of body and mind, and seemed only to need time to go very high up in the scale of honor. But he was not permitted to complete his 26th year. We all loved him dearly--he was our standard bearer--in whom we hoped to get up to the light, out of the dim obscurity in which we had always groped." Brother Jonathan's journal
