It is said that Roger Clapp built the Clapp house at 148 South Street as a late wedding present for Ebenezer & Catherine (Catlin) Clapp when they decided to move to Northampton. This story is apocryphal as Roger had died in 1690. It is more likely that Ebenezer and Catherine built the house for their move to Northampton. The house remained in the family until 1920.
