John was born and raised in a small house on Center St. in Wappingers Falls, NY. He was the son of the late William and Anna Fitzpatrick Morris. He was the youngest child of 6. On Christmas Eve 1939, he met his future wife, Frances Bartholomew of St. Louis, Michigan at a party in Poughkeepsie. The couple was married on October 17, 1942 in St. Peter's Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. John was drafted in the army in December, 1942. During WWII, Sargent Morris was shipped overseas to North Africa, and later to Italy. After the war, John and Frances would settle down in Red Oaks Mill, where they raised 6 children. John was employed at New York Trap Rock for over 30 years.
