Abraham Boyl

  • Birth 28 Oct 1774 Saucon, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, USA
  • Death 1834 Boone County, Indiana, USA
  • Burial Unknown
  • Memorial ID 53045947

Abraham married Margaret McClanahan , December 5,1796 in Botetourt County, Virginia.
His parents had left Pennsylvania and moved to Virgina by 1788. They took up residence in Botetourt and later Giles County, where his mother Anna Maria died.
His father Wilhelm "William " may have died in Clinton County, Indiana as there would have been no reason for him to remain in Giles County, as all his family had removed.

On August 30, 1814 Wilhelm sold 302 acres to son Jacob ( Jacob Jonathan)Boyl. The tax records of 1815 show that John and Jacob Jonathan Boyl( both brother's of Abraham) had two grist and saw mills at Clover Bottom of Sinking Creek which feed the New River.
This was after Anna had died and William remained in Giles county as he was on the 1820 census.William is on the 1830 census of Tazewell county at age 82.

Abraham had moved to Tazewell county, Virginia to raise his large family. After a few years he with his family, a few siblings and I assume his father William, removed to Indiana along with some Beil family members from Pennsylvania.
Abraham named his son Jacob after his brother Jacob Jonathan Boyl who later died in Clinton County at the age of 87 in 1871. Henry Green Boyle speaks of his great Uncle Jacob in his diary.
The name evolved from Beil to Beyl, Boyl, Boyle for some of the Western branch, while the PA branch kept the Beil and a few were changed to Beyl. The name is German and not Irish as many may think. The only Irish in the line is from the McClanahan side.

On the 1815 Tax list of Giles County, footnote # 158, states that, Abram Boils owned land on the Greenbriar Branch of the Sinking Creek.
