Chauncy F. Wait was born June 20th, in Maplewood*, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clemmer F. Wait, and grew to manhood in that vicinity.

Chauncy was united in marriage to Alice Ostlund in June 1917. To this union six children were born, two of them passing away in infancy.

He was one of the first to enlist for his country's service in World War I, serving as a supply sergeant in World War I. After he returned home in 1919, the family moved to Hannaford, N.D., where he owned a Mobil Oil gas station and bulk delivery franchise. For 35 years Mr. Wait had been in the oil business at Hannaford. Though he had been in poor health for several years, his passing came very unexpectedly.

Left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father were his wife; four children; and six grandchildren. He also left behind three brothers; Max of Granite Falls, Ralph of Fergus Falls and Laurance of Rugby, N.D., and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Jorgenson of Fergus Falls and Mrs. Ray (Emma) Rogers of Breckenridge. One sister, Mrs. Grover (Olive) Saunders preceded him in death on Feb. 27 of the same year.

Funeral services were held July 9, at the Maplewood Presbyterian church, Rev. Colvin Butler officiating. Mrs. Harry Tollefson and Mrs. Harry Jorgenson sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Old Rugged Cross." The pallbearers were John Gullickson, David Carlson, John Nodsle, Louie Nodsle, Richard Millbeck and Martin Toso. The floral offering was beautiful and there were many memorials given. After the services the immediate families were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph O. Wait where refreshments were served.

*Published obituary lists Maplewood as town of birth. Historically, Erhard was part of Maplewood Township, in Otter Tail County, Minnesota and is listed that way on Census records for both Chauncey and his parents.
