According to Henry's wife, Mary, Henry was born in Deadwood, South Dakota. The 1920 census says he was born in Germany and naturalized in 1917; no naturalization records were found. The 1930 census also says he was born in Germany. It is not known for sure whether he was born in Germany or South Dakota. The census records for South Dakota for the time period the family was supposedly there were destroyed so are not available. No proof was ever found they lived in South Dakota.

The story told was that his parents had come from Germany to South Dakota and he was born while they were in the U.S. His family then returned to Germany when he was about 6. Henry came back to the United States by himself when he was about 19 where he began working on various ranches in Niobrara and Converse County, Wyoming.

Henry married Mary Helen Rudloff on June 1, 1925 in Douglas, Wyoming. Three children were born to this union: Lila May born March 9, 1926; Henry Eugene born March 6, 1931 and Robert Allen born September 26, 1934.

Henry passed away October 13, 1938 in Douglas, Wyoming. Survivors were his wife and three children.

Nothing is known of his German family nor where they were from in Germany.
