Research chemist. In 1899, working for the Southern Oil Company, he devised the technique by which oil is extracted from cotton seed and made odorless. The result has become known as Wesson Oil (but the current formula for the product has changed). A New York Times article published April 26, 1926 describes a presentation given by Dr. Wesson at the 71st annual convention of the American Chemical Society, in which he predicted the perfection of synthetic beef made from the meal of the cotton seed, and selling for five cents a pound.
