Sophronia Jane Dayton Bentsen, 67, long time Montpelier resident, died Monday, March 30, 1959, at a hospital in Ogden following a linger illness. She was born August 17, 1891 at Dingle, the daughter of John Henry and Caroline, Sparks Dayton.
She and Chris Bentsen were married October 7, 1909 in the L.D.S. Temple, Salt Lake City.
Mrs. Bentsen was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the B. of R.T. She was a teacher in the Fourth Ward Relief Society for 45 years and also a teacher in Primary and Religion classes. She was proceded in death by a son, John Walter, and husband on December 3, 1958.
Surviving are the following seven children: Carl Bentsen of Rawlins, Wyoming, Gerarld, F.C. and A.J. (Cub) Bentsen, Mrs. W.D. (Elma) Moss, and Mrs. H.A. (Virl) McMurray, all of Montpelier, Mrs Max (Bonnie (Lovonnda)), Stanfield, (Mrs. Bob (Bonnie) Berg of Salt Lake City. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Alfred Dayton of Montpelier and Florin Dayton of Dingle, Five sisters, Mrs. Alice C. Hansen of Ogden, Mrs. Chauncey (Olive) Michaelson of Montpelier, Mrs. Leo (Mildred) Nate of Dingle, Mrs. Debert (Nelda) Smith of Montpelier and Mrs. Cecil (Ruby) Dunn of McCammon.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday in the Third-Fifth Ward Chapel with counselor Ferris Hess of the Fourth Ward conducting.
The opening song, "In The Garden" was by Mrs. Dean Larsen and Eugene Wilcox; invocation, Everett Dayton; obituary and remarks, Mr. Hess; vocal solo, "That Wonderful Mother of Mine," Max Haddock; speaker, Dean Hansen; vocal solo, "The End of a Perfect Day," Mrs. Waldo Andersen; speaker, president Eugene P. Shepherd; vocal solo, "Oh Dry Those Tears," Mr. Haddock; benediction, Hal Moss. The prayer at the mortuary was offered by Cecil Dunn. Accompanist was Mrs. Philip Hulme.
Interment was in the Montpelier cemetery and the grave was dedicated by Lynn Nate, Pallbears were Larry Bentsen, Robert Bentsen, Bentsen Moss, Robert Moss, Ronald Stanfield and Fay Jensen. The Matthews Mortuary was in charge of the services.
