James Taylor Farrell was born in the civil war era on his father's plantation in Guntown, Mississippi where cotton and tobacco was their main crops. He was the third of eight children born to Jane Elizabeth Leatherwood and Andrew Jackson Farrell.

Several relatives of James to enclude members of the Farrell and Bullard families are buried in a family cemetery 8 miles east of Guntown in the Red Hill Cemetery and in close proximity members of the Butler family.

Both James and his brother Walter Thomas resided in Choctaw Nation I.T. after leaving Guntown, Mississippi.

After James took his family to Newburg, in Hughes County, Oklahoma from Kully Chaha, Choctaw Nation I.T. he moved once more to Arizona in 1921. He died Mar 9, 1944 in Litchfielf Park, Arizona at this daughter's home, Ollie Catherine Furgerson.

James was a decendant of the Farrell family late of the Kingdom of Ireland who immigrated to South Carolina. His paternal ancestors, the Butler and Bullard families, were decendants of Revolutionary Patriats leaving James a member of a proud American legacy.
