Vincent R. Thornton was the son of Redman and Sarah Thornton. He was born near Union Point, Greene County, Georgia. He married Phoeriba Lyne. As pastor he served the following churches: Baird's, Bethesda, Crawfordville, Friendship, Madison, Penfield, Phillips Mill, Raytown, Smyrna, Washington, and White Plains. For many years he was moderator of the Georgia Baptist Association.
