Fred McSwain Wix Jr., 83, went home to be with Jesus Tues day, October 21, 2008, at the Asheville VA Medical Center.
A resident of Buncombe County for most of his life, he was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Hominy Lodge # 491 AF and AM.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1975 having worked in Asheville and Candler. He was a son of the late Fred McSwain Wix Sr. and Mattie Bonham Wix. He was the husband of the late Alga Vaughn Wix and Wilma Metcalf Wix. He was also preceded in death by a son, Fred Mike Wix; and brothers, Hershel and Harry Wix.
Surviving are his son, Steven Wix, of Fletcher; sister, Jane W. Holcombe, of Candler; daughter-in-law, Hope Wix, of Louisville, Ky.; step daughters, Donna Bennett, of Dry Ridge, Ky. and Deana Joette Webb, of Asheville; granddaughter, Jane Marie Wix; aunts, Louise Brooks, of Asheville and Ruth Gregory, of Buffalo, S.C.; and very special friend, Sheila McCarson.
The funeral service will be at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Higgins officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
